Recognized as having characteristically eclectic yet consistent harmonic sensibilities, Pianist and Composer Matt Krane (b. 1999) has performed and premiered his work throughout the country. His music is defined by novel but tonal harmony and song-like melody that both challenge conventions and uphold tradition.
Matt has composed for various ensembles and vocal forces, including, recently, Sax Talk, performed by and written for the Qobalt Quartet, Canned Gopher for Alegria Ensemble, and Three Poems of Sara Teasdale for Voice and Piano. He regularly revises works and has recently recorded a set of concert rags which now await digital release. In addition to composing, Matt is a dedicated music educator who directs various instrumental and choral ensembles.
After attending SUNY New Paltz for a BA in Jazz Studies and subsequently Lehman College for a MAT in Music Education, Matt resides in New York, NY, where he recently completed a Master's in Composition at Queens College, and is an active member of the New York Composers Circle. Matt will be beginning a DMA in composition at the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School in Fall ‘26. His principal composition teachers include David Schober and Bruce Saylor, with whom Matt maintains a close mentorship relationship.
Influences of jazz and popular music, as well as literary themes, often constitute Matt’s artistic motivation. He hopes to continue his creative output, writing music for concert/chamber groups, jazz ensembles, and pedagogical purposes alike.
